Chapter Expansion at Baylor University

Baylor University's Fraternity & Sorority Life community is intentionally designed to support student growth, leadership development, academic success, and meaningful belonging. As student needs and the campus community evolve, Baylor may consider opportunities to expand the fraternity and sorority experience through the addition of new chapters.

Because fraternity and sorority organizations play an important role in the student experience, the establishment of new chapters occurs through a thoughtful and strategic process. Social fraternities and sororities may establish chapters at Baylor only through a formal invitation from the University. Any potential expansion must align with Baylor's mission, values, and policies while contributing positively to the overall Fraternity & Sorority Life community and campus culture.

Our Philosophy

The goal of chapter expansion is not simply to increase the number of organizations on campus, but to strengthen opportunities for students and enhance the long-term health of the entire fraternity and sorority community. Baylor evaluates expansion opportunities through a student-centered lens, considering how a prospective organization would:

  • Support student success and wellbeing

  • Enhance leadership and engagement opportunities

  • Contribute positively to the campus community

  • Align with Baylor's mission and values

  • Foster the long-term sustainability of Fraternity & Sorority Life

When expansion occurs, Baylor seeks partners that can provide a meaningful and lasting experience for both current and future students.

The Expansion Process

Baylor welcomes interest from students and inter/national organizations that wish to be considered for future expansion opportunities. However, all expansion activity is guided by University priorities and community needs. New chapters may only be established through a formal University-led process and invitation.

Expansion decisions are made carefully and intentionally to ensure that growth benefits not only a prospective organization but also existing chapters, their members, and the broader Baylor community.

Annual Review

The Greek Letter Organization Expansion Policy is reviewed annually in conjunction with the Student Activities Policies and Procedures. Baylor University and the Department of Student Activities reserve the right to modify policies, procedures, regulations, and related information as needed. Any approved changes become effective upon authorization by the Vice President for Student Life.

Through this intentional approach, Baylor remains committed to cultivating a thriving, sustainable, and values-based fraternity and sorority community that serves students for generations to come.
